DVD releases: July 29, 2008

It’s Tuesday and that means new DVD’s have been released.

Once again the world of DVD’s sees a relatively weak week, saved by Martin Scorcese’s look at The Rolling Stones “Shine a Light”

Shine a Light

Scorcese’s glimpse into the lives of The Rolling Stones as he follows them for two days during their Bigger Bang tour. Powerful cinematography of the Bands concert are a highlight of this interesting documentary.

Never Back Down

In the long list of great movies about the new kid in school who finds refuge as an MMA fighter to help sort out his life in this new environement while starring Sean Farris this probably ranks number one. In the long list of good movies, this isn’t even considered.

Lost Boys 2: The Tribe

I can’t review this, because… well, I’ve never seen it. I was actually a big fan of the first one. And in this world of Twilight craze and screaming girls fainting over vampires, I’m sure this movie may actually be picked up. I can tell you that it stars Corey Feldman and Corey Hain… you do the math.

Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanamo Bay

The first film in this duet of two stoners on a journey was alot funnier than it had any right to be. It is what “Dude, Where’s my car” should have been. This second outing of the two “heroes” has laughs, quite a few, but it just isn’t as great as the first.

Inglorious Bastards

“What?” “I didn’t even think tarantino had cast this yet?” Well, he hasn’t. This isn’t the epic war film QT’s been working on for a solid 15 years. This is Enzo G. Castellari’s exploitation classic. An italian, and more violent, version of the Dirty Dozen. I can’t review as I haven’t seen it yet. I’m definitely interested, and I may pick this up some time this week. Stars Bo Svenson and Fred Williamson.
